June 10th Tuesday- Walked on a glacier!!!

We drove to Talkeetna, Alaska this morning, set up and went into the small town around 2:00 pm. Cathy suggested we walk down to the Talkeetna Air Taxi and see if there were any deals because it was late. She was right! We signed up to fly and walk on a river glacier at 4:00 pm.                                                                                                Our pilot & airplane

After checking in we had to put snow boots over our shoes and then boarded the plane with 8 other passengers.  I wore some really classy boots- two different colors and one medium and one wide width.

We spent so much of our time taking pictures of Mt Denali and the Alaskan Mountain Range and now we are going to fly in it!
 Approaching the Alaska mountain range.

In the mountain range we saw many other glaciers.

Landing on the Ruth Glacier which is a river glacier
that is made from the flowing water off of Mt.Denali.
A flat area at the top of the glacier was flattened down so the planes could land.

Tracks behind the airplane.

This house (below) was sitting on a cliff to our right.
A "homestead" from the 50's. A caretaker was there and
we were picking up a maintenance man to take back
                                             to Talkeetna.

A tiny snowman on the glacier!

It was warm up there which surprised me but we were surrounded by the mountain range and you are so close to the sun.
It was an amazing feeling to think we were actually walking on a glacier up near the top of the Alaskan mount range!
