July 5th, Saturday Day #58- Major Marine Tour

We took a Major Marine Tour of Resurrection Bay, the Gulf of Alaska to the tip of the Pacific Ocean. It took us to see ocean animals, bird life and glaciers.

                                         Humpback Whales

                                    Killer Whales (Orcas)

                                                                 Sea Lions

The Holgate Glacier is considered a tidal glacier because it meets the water. It sounded like thunder when the ice broke away from the the left side of the glacier ("cave looking part) into the water.

These are Hanging Glaciers

All of the glaciers we have seen are melting rapidly. Cathy said she is sad and surprised at how much the glaciers have melted in just two years.

The Exit Glacier below has receded 15 miles in 10 years. It takes a glacier 8 years to add just 1 inch thickness to a glacier.
