Saturday June 14-   Visiting the Iditarod Trail Headquarters

Pip, Riley Dyche's sled dog, excited before the race.                                                                                                                                                                                                                               Riley,  a dog musher, was at the headquarters. We had the opportunity to talk to him and his wife about taking care of their dogs and racing. Riley took 10th place in this year's 800 mile race in March over mountains, frozen rivers and tundra. That is quite an accomplishment!

The dogs run through the kiddy pools before running and pulling the sled.
Riley explained that the weather is very warm for the dogs,
so dogs need to cool off their paws.

We saw his 18 dog sled huskies and took a land dog sled ride with 11 of the them.
The ride was short and very fast.

Riley had extra dogs napping on their houses.
These dogs will be rotated in, if Riley gets busy.

We enjoyed ourselves so much that tomorrow we are going to the Happy Trails Kennel owned by three time Iditarod winner, Martin Buser.
