June 1st- Sunday1 Day#23
We are boondocking at Pioneer Park here in Fairbanks, Alaska for a few days.
Went to the Visitors Center and picked up some Brochures about renting a car to drive up to the Artic Circle sign. They were showing a video all about the Alaskan Pipeline which we will visit on Tuesday.
Then off to Cosco- yup they have one here. Stocked up on some food and got a barbeque chicken for dinner. Just like at home.
Off to the HOT Springs tomorrow!
June 2nd- Monday Day #24
This morning we went to Mc Donald's for coffee and breakfast. A gentleman from Alaska came over and asked us where we were from. He talked a lot about the history of Alaska and especially the annual Dog Sled Race. Cathy started telling us about this race when the man came back with some notes he wrote. Then he thanked us for visiting Alaska!
On our ride up to the springs a moose walked out in front of us and crossed the street. This 7 foot 1,200 pound animal with its long legs was a sight to see!!!
We saw birds, the ice house and an area where they show panning for gold. After walking around the Chena Hot Springs areas we went in and it was HOT, but also very relaxing.
Of course after all that excitement Cathy and I had to go do the laundry at the Laundry Mat, but we did eat at the Alaskan Salmon Bake. No cooking for us tonight! It wasn't crowded when we got there but the tour buses came and then it was packed. A lot of the people are on tours from cruise ships.
After eating, we walked around the park and looked in some of the little stores that were open. There were many that aren't open yet, too early in the season. We are seeing more kids walking around at night so we figure that school must be over.
Tomorrow- Visiting the North Pole, Alaska Pipe Line, Museum and grocery shopping.
