The last time we tried to visit the Independence Mine State Historical Park was on June 15th and this is what it looked like.
This is what it looks like now.
This was a bunkhouse.
The boomtown from above.
Two boys with their Dad were "panning for gold".
The Independence Mine was a gold mining village with 27 dwellings called Boomtown or Independence Village. Married men and families could build their own homes and the rest lived in bunkhouses.
Both men and women worked at the mine making $7.50 a day plus room and board. This made it a popular place to work, but the work was hard!
Tomorrow we move to Glenn Alen and then drive to Valdez.
